A classroom designed for independence
A Montessori classroom is carefully designed to foster independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Children choose their own work, building independence, concentration, and intrinsic motivation from the earliest age.
Older children mentor younger ones while younger children are inspired by their peers — community is the heart of learning. Spanish is part of the daily rhythm, woven into greetings, songs, routines, and play throughout the day.
Areas of the classroom
Practical Life
Activities of daily living that build concentration, coordination, independence, and order.
Sensorial
Materials that isolate a defining quality (color, weight, size) to help children refine their senses.
Mathematics
Concrete materials that move logically to the abstract, teaching arithmetic, geometry, and early algebra.
Language
Phonics-based approach using tactile materials to organically develop reading, writing, and comprehension.
Cosmic Education
Maria Montessori urged us to give children a "vision of the universe" to help them discover how all of its parts are interconnected and interdependent — through the integration of astronomy, chemistry, biology, geography, and history.
Fine Arts
Music, visual arts, and performance arts are part of daily classroom life.
